The Memorial Day Parade may have been cancelled, other events may have been either cancelled or put into jeopardy, but that doesn’t stop us from creating new ways to gather, celebrate, or have a parade.

Dexter United Methodist Church is organizing a massive drive-by to nearby senior living communities this Sunday to spread some cheer on Mother’s Day, and EVERYONE IS INVITED to join in, Methodist or not.

Joining in is easy:

Decorate your car, make a poster, or grab a yard sign: For your car, grab some streamers, a poster board (Happy Mother’s Day, We Love You, Thank You, Thinking of You, God Bless You, etc), and/or other ideas. Stick the sign out of your window or sunroof for the residents who will be watching from inside from the safety of their rooms.

Show up (rain or shine) at 4 pm to the entrance of the senior community nearest to you, or if you have the time choose your location by your last name to make sure everyone is covered.

  • A-G: Chelsea Retirement Community (main campus) – (2nd Street), and drive the loop in front of Dancey House, then the Prairie Cottages, then the loop at Towsley village.
  • H-O: The Cedars of Dexter
  • P-Z: The Pines (on Wilkenson Street in Chelsea) and Silver Maples of Chelsea (off Old US 12, near the Hospital).

Nobody will be getting out of their cars. When it begins, drive slowly, toot your horn, wave, cheer, and cheer for the faithful staff of these communities too.

The senior communities know you’re coming and will be joining in the procession as well.

Happy Mothers Day!
